ASTM A53 Seamless Pipe
Grade A · Grade B | Type S | Structural & Mechanical Applications
ASTM A53 is one of the most widely used specifications for carbon steel pipe. While often associated with welded pipe (Type E/F), the standard explicitly includes Type S (Seamless) for applications where a weld seam is undesirable.
ASTM A53 seamless pipe is manufactured via hot rotary piercing followed by mandrel mill rolling or cold drawing, ensuring uniform grain structure and absence of weld seams – critical for applications where integrity under cyclic loading or internal pressure is required.
We supply ASTM A53 seamless pipe from stock in Grades A and B, with full certification and global shipping.

FAQ – ASTM A53 Seamless Pipe
What is the difference between ASTM A53 Type S and Type E/F?
Type S is seamless pipe – manufactured without a weld seam. Type E is electric-resistance welded, and Type F is furnace-welded. ASTM A53 seamless pipe (Type S) provides uniform strength in all directions and is preferred for bending, cyclic loading, and applications where a weld seam is undesirable.
What is the temperature limit for ASTM A53 seamless pipe?
ASTM A53 seamless pipe is suitable for service up to 150°C (300°F) . For continuous service above this temperature, specify ASTM A106 seamless pipe. ASME B31.1 (Power Piping) does not permit A53 for high-temperature service.
Can ASTM A53 seamless pipe be galvanized?
Yes. ASTM A53 seamless pipe is commonly hot-dip galvanized per ASTM A123 for outdoor or corrosive environments. Galvanized A53 seamless pipe is widely used in fire protection systems (NFPA 13 compliant) and outdoor structures.
What is the difference between ASTM A53 Grade A and Grade B?
Grade B has higher strength (240 MPa yield vs 205 MPa) and is more commonly stocked. Grade A is sometimes specified for applications requiring higher ductility. Most projects specify A53 Grade B seamless pipe.
Is ASTM A53 seamless pipe suitable for pressure applications?
Yes, for low-pressure applications. ASTM A53 seamless pipe is hydrostatically tested and suitable for service up to the pressure ratings defined in ASME B31.9 (Building Services Piping). For high-pressure systems, consult design codes.
What documentation is provided with A53 seamless pipe?
EN 10204 Type 3.1 Mill Test Certificate, dimensional inspection report, and certificate of compliance to ASTM A53. Galvanizing test reports provided if applicable.
What is the minimum order quantity for A53 seamless pipe?
| A53 Seamless Pipe Size Range | Quantity |
|---|---|
| NPS ½" – 4" | 5 tons per size |
| NPS 6" – 12" | 10 tons per size |
| NPS 14" – 18" | 15 tons per size |

A283 steel coil exhibits excellent work hardening properties during cold forming for its high strength and plasticity. After repeated cold working deformation, the coil can still show similar strength and hardness, with even better ductility and toughness. In addition, due to its good welding performance, the coil can be easily welded into parts of various shapes and sizes, and the welding quality is stable and reliable. A283 steel coils are widely used in the manufacturing of various mechanical parts, such as bolts, nuts, pins and other standard parts as well as various non-standard mechanical parts. In addition, they are also used in the manufacture of building structural materials.
